Reduced glutathione exists in mammals, plants and microorganism extensively. It exists in human body with a balance between its reduced form (GSH), and its oxidized form (GSSG) – a disulfide. In tissue, the ratio of GSH vs. GSSG is normally 99 to 1, but in blood plasma the ratio is about 1 to 6.
