Alcoholic hepatic disease

Summary:

Alcoholic liver disease is damage to the liver and its functions because of alcohol abuse. Liver cells contain enzymes which metabolize alcohol, and they can metabolize only a certain amount of alcohol per hour. Alcoholic liver disease often occurs after years of excessive drinking. Excessive drinking can lead to three kinds of liver conditions - fatty liver, hepatitis, and cirrhosis.

Classification:

1. Mild alcoholic liver disease;
2. Alcoholic fatty liver;
3. Alcoholic hepatitis;
4. Alcoholic hepatic fibrosis;
5. Alcoholic hepatocirrhosis

Diagnosis:

Make a comprehensive diagnosis according to disease history, symptom, sign, chemical examination and liver biopsy.

Treatment:

For all kinds of alcohol-induce liver disease, following a healthy diet and stopping alcohol-drinking are strongly recommended. Vitamin supplements may be taken for a while.
